Why Is Sex Before Marriage Now Popular in Indonesia?

In this globalization era, media nowadays are the main tool to use as a distributor of information. The information that is delivered from media can be positive and negative. First of all, some teenagers in Indonesia follow anything they watch from movies. The movies they watched are movies that consist of immoral woman actions. Usually, the woman acts some erotic styles. Moreover, she also wears immoral dress in order to make every man watch her interested. Then, they freely watch some scenes showing immoral actions in the movies without any filter. Some teenagers get the movies from DVD movie shop that is illegal. For example, it can be found in Glodok, North Jakarta. In Glodok, sex movies DVDs are sale freely. There is no prohibition in selling it there. There also become a central of imitated DVDs selling. In addition, the cheap price also makes teenagers interested in buying the DVDs. They cost are Rp. 3.000 per DVD or Rp. 10.000 per 3 DVDs. It is cheap price around teenagers. Therefore, it is no wonder that many teenagers buy DVDs from the illegal movie shop.

Second, western porn magazines also take a lot of contribution to this case. The porn magazine shows sexy woman’s pictures that make every man watch the magazine interested. The teenagers can buy the magazines at the illegal stores freely. Afterward, they look at the pictures there and share it proudly to their friends. They might not think whether it is something good or not. They only thing that anything from western is good and they also think that is a modern life style they should follow. If they do not follow, they will be mocked by their friends. Furthermore, the price of the magazine is also cheap. It is around Rp. 10.000 to Rp. 20.000. The cheap price makes them easily to get the magazine. This is a bad thing, because they should have used the money from their parents to use in a good way.

Finally, sex before marriage is also a result of misapplication of internet usage. As we know, many teenagers in Indonesia use internet as new technology and a new information tool. However, this new technology is carelessly misapplied by them by watching and downloading porn videos, reading some adult sex stories, or seeing some immoral pictures. In summary, popularity of sex before marriage in Indonesia can be caused by three factors. First, it can be caused by western movies containing immoral actions that are watched by some teenagers in Indonesia. Second, porn magazines also take a lot of contribution to this case. There are sexy pictures inside of magazines that are seen by teenagers. Finally, sex before marriage is also a result of misapplication of internet usage. They can freely download and watch porn videos and pictures there without any prohibition and monitoring from their parents. As a result, nowadays sex before marriage does not sound strange anymore in Indonesia.
